Halibut slime does wonders for sealing paint. Haha sounds like you've got a real problem to solve.:D

You ask for help yet flip us off? :)

I rinse yak and truck with freshwater when I get home....then the yak again when I unload...

Not sure other loading arrangement would help you keep salt off the truck.
This works for me. :alberteinstein:

This is what i have been doing. I grab the hose and hose down the car, but my paint job still gets messed up.

mazilla 10-18-2011 03:19 PM

You need to dissolve the salt, I'd go with soap and water after each trip if you're worried...you can always drive through a carwash afterwards if it becomes a hassle.

Has anybody thought about driving the car with the yak on the roof through a touch free wash? That'd be a pretty sweet way to clean the both at the same time.

StinkyMatt 10-18-2011 03:26 PM

Yeah, what he said.....:luxhello:
Drive into the car wash with your Yak on the roof!

Please, Please , Please make sure there is a camera rolling somewhere!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: :eek::eek:

wiredantz 10-18-2011 03:29 PM

Tim, WE VOLUNTEER YOU!!!! :luxhello:

Matt please go grab the camera...

Water + Soap + Rinse. I do this everytime. Most times I don't actually hand wash it. I just get some suds going in a bucket and toss it on, then hose off.

wiredantz 10-18-2011 03:31 PM

:doh:i forgot the suds!

Thanks

I usually take my car to nearby a pressure washer--from the launch site-- and blast away the salt residue.

wiredantz 10-18-2011 04:09 PM

I have never used a pressure washer before, are they free?

I am asumming there is one at Cabrillo? I wonder if there is one at Redondo.

all the beach launches are a no go.

I saw that one coming, at least he is going to the launches in style...excuse me Frank, but can you pass the "grey poupon"?

GregAndrew 10-18-2011 06:21 PM

Get a protable pressure washer to rinse the kayak before you put it on top of your car. No salt, no problem.

Get a decent car wax and wax the roof every 2 to 3 months. That should keep the salt at bay. If you are going to use soap, then probably wax a bit more often.
