To Sail or Not to Sail

Wanted to get opinions on wether or not to and a sail to my fishing kayak. I have done quite a bit of research and watched several videos on youtube of fishing kayaks with sails added. I just dont know if i should add one. I know the hobie adventure islands have sails and that most hobie's have the option to add a sail. I have been looking into adding the kayak V sail to my cobra. Has anyone on this forum used a V sail. There are videos on youtube of the V sail being used to tack up wind and to reach running perpendicular to the wind without the use of out riggers only using lee boards.

Any suggestions, opinions, or personal experiance would be apreciated thanks.

I plan on adding a V sail to my T13. They are quick and easy to build for very little cash. I figure I will just keep it stored in the hull and then set it up for the paddle back, if the option is available. If you have the space on your yak and some time go for it. I doubt you will find it part of your everyday yaking though if you are fishing. I think it's kind of fun just for the novelty of it. :)

Good Luck

Thanks brotha - Since I have a little experience here I will toss my honest opinion out; If you want to sail, buy a sail boat....period! Way to much work to both sail and fish, and I even had the Hobie TI.

Hey Frank,
saw your post, sorry to hear about getting caught in an off shore like that, and I can honestly say, "I know how you feel", "been there done that"...got caught in one of those about 3-4 years ago out of Oxnard, on my XFactor, that's why I have a Hobie now, I thought I was not gonna make it in, paddling in place for over an hour, didn't dare reach for the water bottle or I would be back 100 yards from where I just paddled, the president of CKF died that day, I know it can happen, so I got a Hobie shortly after that happened, and took it out, on purpose, with a 35 mph off shore to see how it worked...and you know what I ride now...it is a scary and frustrating deal to be caught out in winds like that, but honestly you would have been the last person I would have expected to have that happen to, I have seen your roost out the back of that XFactor..
As far as a sail, and fishing I agree it may be too much hassle, but Gman
Gerard does it, seems to work well in the wind, it just looks like an aweful lot of equipment...nice Hali BTW, :reel:
Matt didn't we tell you to wear your floaties when you go out?? lol
