ROOSTER FISH/GONZAGA

ROBMONEY and Makobob, spent two days in Gonzaga. We went to work on the house, had tool problems, bad gas, and still got a lot done, but not enclosed yet. One more day, next time?

Between us we might have fished 6 hours total. We DID NOT put a kayak in the water. We did however walk North on our beach about 1/4 mlie and started throwing crocks from the beach both evenings. We might have covered another 1/2 mile of beach/reef casting into small surf. Rob got his first 2 Orange Mouth Corvina, AND his first 2 Roosterfish. Nothing landed over 6-7 pounds. We both hooked and lost bigger fish, one was a train. We both were followed by bigger corvina. most were within 50 to 75 feet of the beach.

GONZAGA ON THE FLY in three weeks could be epic. Think spoons, bait fish flies in white, silver patterns. 2.5-4,5 inches. Imitate a sardina with a single black spot. I also caught bass, cabrilla, a Jack and a mystery fish.

Sounds like a blast ! Hitting Gonzaga oct 3-7 for the first time and can't wait. Surf is going to be too big for SQ. Any tips for Gonzaga bay? Going to camp at those palapas and assuming we will be fishing around the island with Krocs, poppers?, etc. not sure how currents are

And cue "Life of Brian" theme music.
Always look on the bright side of life

Way to find the silver lining. Greener pastures ahead for sure! You should take up fly fishing, head to Gonzaga and catch 30# roosters with your toes in the sand!!!

Krocs, poppers, shallow swimmers, and megabaits were all good in Sept. The currents are not as much as an issue as the wind, but you sure don't want to be battling both at the same time. The island is good, but don't forget the rubble reef off to the right of camp at the small point, it will surprise you.

The 42 lb. rooster caught in September was caught while trolling back to camp in a paddle yak.

Tom, call me and I will fill you in., 760-692-7276.

Guys this IS NOT a normal year in Baja or here. When the water temps start droping the exotics will leave the area, the time is now, Tom is going at the right time to experience some great fishing. Tight lines.

Walrus and Bob,

Thanks for the information!! Much appreciated . I will give you a call this evening and see if I can catch you.

Thanks again
