Kayak Buddy anyone try it?

Interesting set up this guy is making for Hobie pedal drive yaks. Yeah it may be noisy, yeah you may breath some Carbon Mono, Yeah you have to register it in CA (torq and bixby have to be registered also). But I think its cool as it will outrun any battery operated propulsion system. His claim is it is really not that loud cause he uses Honda 4 stroke, and claims that the smell is not really noted while under way. Price point is cheaper to a Bixby but again you can go for hours. Was wondering if anyone seen one in person to report how loud and smelly it really is lol.

As long as the fuel is contained and not leaking, modern four strokes are very low odor.

If registering though I'd be tempted to just get a boat hull.

I mean $919 for the hobie set up it’s not much more then replacing a drive.

I could see using it to get to the tuna grounds, but if I'm going that far, I'd like enough hull to be seen.

Maybe it would help get you back in on one of those days when you fill the yak with 60 plus pounds of fish. That's the only time I ever considered a power adder, otherwise it's just too easy with pedals.

I think I might be a purist, I have more fun float tubing than yakking, it's just not practical if you're after big game. But for low current situations/bassing, the less there is between me and the fish, the more enjoyment I get.

I enjoy peddle also and if I did get it use it on occasion. Here in SoCal there are really good big fish grounds to be had. Like in San Diego pick up bait at barge and make it around the point for incredible kelp or even go all the way around and hit La Jolla with sardines! Or in OC/LA can get out to the oil rigs,Muscle Farm, horseshoe. Fun to catch bass, boring to catch rock fish but hook up to a big fish on a yak, man I have not had that pull in years. Still thinking about it. :reel:
