La Jolla 11-29-2021 on the Solo Skiff.

Fishing has been slow for a while and with weather changes both at the coast and were I live, It was too easy to talk myself out of loading things up and making it down to La Jolla several times. Finally I knew I had to get out on one off those breaks in the Marine Layer pattern. I timed it right and ended with a perfect day on the water to just enjoy and not let the slow "catching" spoil anything. It's hard to beat San Diego weather.

Nice and flat condition to be out and enjoy the weather.

Yes it was so calm and very light wind. It was great when not cruising and searching for marks, it was surreal with all the wild life around all sides of me. Tight Lines!

Whenever I return from a trip to La Jolla, my wife almost always asks me, "did you catch anything?" My response is mostly consistent -- "had a good time, could have caught as much as I wanted, but no yellowtail today". Keep in mind that I usually go for YT, and when you are fishing a 13" greenback, there is limited opportunity for by-catch. The "good time" I'm referring to when talking to my wife is what you showed in your video. I am lucky to live in SD where I have access to the our weather, sea conditions, and the natural resources. Catching a HG YT is just a bonus. Being out on the open water, watching porpoise up close, and being a small part of my ocean surroundings is what makes it great. Thanks for sharing your videos. It tells the story of why I get out there. THANKS!!!

X2. Well said. I also usually just target almost exclusively YT. It's the experience that makes the day and if I bring home a YT it just makes it better. A few years ago I released every YT I caught for 1 1/2 years, because I still had some in the freezer. Now in the last couple years they are just not around in numbers as often. Being towed around and hearing my reel drag screaming as line is peeling, is so addicting. I love it!
