Another Grouper Crossed Off The Kayak List.

Fishing pressure has thinned out the SE Florida Grouper population. Luck crossed the Snowy Grouper off the list the first year in a Kayak. It was two more years before landing a keeper Black and five years before Landing a keeper Gag Grouper. Keepers are tough to get as many species have off-season windows and 20-24" minimum size limits. After seven years in the kayak, finally a keeper Scamp Grouper last month on a slow pitch :jig:

Still not even halfway.......the Goliath, Nassau, Red, Yellowfin, and Warsaw Groupers are still pending.:reel:

Thanks, David. It is sad to see the diminishment. For what it's worth, I released that one. The preserve zones can help and Florida needs to have more of them. Water pollution is a big factor. The industrial runoff creates massive algae blooms that kill thousands of fish annually. Thanks to mercury, fish that would otherwise be good to eat are becoming fish to avoid.

Scamp is actually one I got long ago on a trip to the Keys. I had it misidentified on my list as a gag grouper for several years before I realized the mistake.

Small point-and-shoot cameras have come a long ways in just a decade. I cringe when I look back at some of these old pics. It has great resolution and focus, but the auto light settings were lacking.

Very cool, What is your total count number? I bet a large portion of it is from Florida.:reel:
