Report 5-10

Got to the launch at 5:15 to grey/overcast skys and a light onshore wind that was texturing the water. At 5:15... that doesn't bode well especially since the tide is dropping all morning, I thought. Well, I'm here and I want my first :yt:.

Geared up after chatting with a couple of Salts from OB- I hit the water and launched in small 1-2' surf and headed for the pier. Tried to make bait for 45 min or so without success. Other guys were having problems by that time too.

Headed out to toss the hard stuff and see if I could make bait there. Birds and bait were everywhere early in the morning until 9am or so. I had no luck finding fish or bait the whole morning except for one calico that bit my brn/yel/wht taddy #9.

Wind was variable but did pick up pretty briskly for a little while from NNW, and seemed to be less on the inside. Current was mild.

Saw the Salts back at the launch- one caught a nice looking ~20#er on his blu/wht taddy.... heard another report of a PBer catching a smaller wsb.

Off the water by 11. Still have a lot to learn.

Good luck this weekend.

I had similar experience. Me and friend headed to the pier at 5am. Picked up 10 or so greenbacks only to put them in a bait tank that wasn't cooperating (pump) after 1/2 hr of electrical re-work we were off to the condo. the water was churney all the time out today which made it difficult to see any surface action. Birds flying around but not in good numbers. Did not see any bird frenzies anywhere. Worked the front of condo out 1-2 miles for nodda. Near the condo I did get hit briefly and the greeny was trashed everywhere?. That was it. Good paddling and always good to be on the water regardless......Hey where are the pics from the 2 white sea bass caught yesterday morning?. John?, Dennis?. I belive they went 40 plus and a good 50lb'er. Gotta share the love.

It was sloppy on Thursday, windy, cloudy… NW was blowing…

I timed horribly and almost got yanked out of my seat with one 2+ fter that broke on me…

The bait was easy at the pier once it got gray - the greenies woke up.

That brownish poop looking water was back from the reserve line to about ½… Further down South it was greenish. Visibility was about 10ft, with areas that had less than that.

Bait is still all over. Water was 62.

At 6:30 AM, I ran into a small school of yellas, maybe 6-7 fish. As my kayak slapped the surface, they got disturbed and started cooking no more than 15 meters away… I shot Salas B&W 7x in a perfect cast… Got 2 followers and 1 bump. 2nd cast I got one to stick… It started peeling drag then came unbuttoned after 30 secs. I had a good look at it exploding on my jig – 10#ish class.

Swell was much better back on the beach with low Tide. Met the old school kayakers Tobey and his friend Mailman Jim. Sure thing, Jim had a nice 12# YT. Here’s a picture, as requested.

Paddled out with Stevo. Water was real brown. Found one bait ball and saw about 4 or five yellow tail hit them and then disappear, never to been seen again.
Thanks Stevo for showing me the ropes.
