5/14 Silverwood Lake

Got on the water pretty late so I didn't have high expectations of catching fish but it was good to be on the water. Wife took her kayak so I was on the Malibu Pro2T alone. We decided to see how long it would take to get to the dam, about an hour of steady paddling. I guessed the wind wouldn't come up until 11 so I thought we would get back easy. I was wrong, the wind came up at 10, just as we started back, into 20mph winds with whitecaps, it was a hard slog against the wind but the Pro2T handled it pretty good. About 3 miles, give or take a little in an hour and 15 but I am beat. Now I'm not worried about going a mile off shore though. No fish because we spent more time paddling than fishing but I talked with a few guys who were catching bass and the lake looks good, nice and full. My ff died today, says it can't see the transducer. Oh well, I was planning on upgrading anyway.

yep. found that out, next time I leave the dam area much earlier, it's getting serious when the whitecaps are running.

You got guts Harry. I yaked Silverwood once. I only fished the marina area because the crazy boaters and jet skiers scared the crap out of me. I figured at least 50% of them had a measurable blood alcohol level. Managed only one cat. I have gotten nice stripers from the shore there though.

the guys in the power boats are pretty crazy, especially crossing the water ski area. Paddling back and fighting the wind I almost got run over by a guy in a rental boat, he was busy looking at something on the motor and never looked where he was going. I was debating in my head whether I would dive in or let the boat hit the yak, I'm afraid if I'm in the water the prop will get me. Luckily at the last minute he looked up and steered away from the collision, he yelled at me like I was the one causing the problem. I think I'll start carrying an air horn, this was the second time I've had a boat bear down on me. Silverwood is great when the stripers are biting but you have to fish when they stock trout or you won't get stripers.
