Feb 15-17 report, San Diego bay and La Jolla

Went out Saturday morning for hero’s on the water event pulled in 10-15 small spotties with gulp fluke on the drop shot and a plain jig head. Fish were bitting the whole time mainly found them on the drop off between 15ft and 30ft. Saturday night went to the bait barge, great fishing while the tide was coming in and slowed after the tide slowed down. 5” jerk bait did the trick on a drop shot with 1oz weight. Sunday morning at La Jolla had a sunrise launch, couldn’t find bait but the birds were everywhere chasing the red crabs. Lots of whales and dolphins swimming around. Hooked up on one rock fish and my buddy caught two. Caught him on the under spin in 75ft of water.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ae35ed81d9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b24ab48afc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a843b633fa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9e601b4bff.jpg

Hi thanks for the report. Can you explain how you 'drop shot'? Do you just have a weight at the bottom and a plastic a couple feet up from that? Do you just let the weight sit on the bottom, take up the slack and jiggle the bait for action? Or do you drag it back to the kayak?

Thanks
David

How I personally drop shot. I get about a four foot piece of line and tie the line to a barrel swivel. Tie the sinker on to one end then make a dropper loop about 8-14 inches from the sinker. I try to make the loop three times four inches big so the jig has some room for doing its thing. I let the weight sit on bottom but always keep tension or I lose the rig every time. I do small jigs or let it sit in the current most of the time I have had the fish just grab as long as your bring it over structure. I try to fish by drifting over the structure I find.
