LJ - 8/20

Went out to LJ this morning. Bait was difficult at the kelp, only caught mini lizard fish which I later caught a mini calico and a mini sandbass with. Wind was blowing from the South; current seemed pretty nonexistant. Trolled a rapala out to the canyon to investigate some birds; nothing doing.

Came back and started drifting around Casa. Fished iron, fished plastic/leadhead and fished dropper loop with the before-mentioned lizard fish. Caught those mini bass and a small brown rockfish on the plastic. Saw n surface action.

Thanks for sharing. It's been ridiculous, how slow and hard to make bait at all area around LJ. In 5 years I can,t remember it being so bad. I guess, I say that because I'm not interested in getting rockfish or calicos. I want more of the big guys to pull hard and get towed around by. Sharks aren't as much fun, except for Threshers.

Ok I’ll do it... Sunday early pier for bait in the dark. Crushed salted anchovies and dog food had the greenies swarming. Full tank by first grey light. Across canyon to condo, dead. Out about 1/2 way to the corner, 95’ h20 bait walled off on the meter on a high spot. Saw some quick boilers run through and felt super fishy, nervous mac. Did a circle around the high spot a few times and got picked up on the fly line. Fish took a bit to actually take the bait, run, drop, run, run hook up. Low 20 lbs or so. I’ll post a pic soon. Lots of boats/kayakers, got it about 8:30 or so. Handed off the bait to Chris and Chad and beat the sunburn to the beach. 65 braid, 25 lb flourocarbon, small hook.
