YOU and BAJA

As I am healing the next couple of weeks it is TIME for YOU.
Baja is calling. Where do you want to go fishing. Light tackle, fly fishing, surf fishing. What are your desires? What species, where and when. I will try to use this information to set some trips up for 2015 and 2016.

This is your time to chime in on YOUR dreams. Let me know. Tight lines.

Beach camping by yak? That should be doable, let me look into it. What is your prefered time of year and how many days. Thanks Andy.

Zed 05-11-2015 11:05 AM

Since we're cloud talkin, there's some Baja gaps I need to fill on the yak.

San Francisquito
Punta Chivato
San Lucas Cove
Juncalito
Punta Arena (de la Ventana)

Outside Abre.
Probably have to at least try Mag Bay someday too, only because it's such a big chunk of blank space on my map.

Guadalupe

And I wish I had been able to hit San Carlos Sonora, so that's on the list.

Edit: And I've been talking about a through paddle from Pta Colorada (RIP) to Cabo Pulmo for 10 years. Buncha pansies wont do it. lol

YakHanded 05-11-2015 11:29 AM

There is that river mouth at Rancho Cepeda north of San Quintin looks intriguing - never been there

*might be dry from what i can tell by the satellite images but looks like a good place to feesh/launch

SO if you take your head out of the clouds, San Lucas Cove and Punto Chivato COULD be combined we are talking about 15 miles apart. LOOONG one day drive and you are good to go if you have two drivers per truck.

Now Pta Colorado to Cabo Pulmo that's less than 15 miles as the crow flies, you want to do it non stop or camp mid point and explore both sides? How about a truck on shore to meet up with in the evening with cook/camp gear?
Even Ross and I could do it that way!!!! Zed did I get your attention yet?

I will be at San Quintin for my Halibut tourney on 6 June and will try and check it out with the locals while I am there. That WHOLE coast line is open to the pacific, and fishy. WSB, Halibut, Reds, Ling, Tails, Tuna, Bass are all available in this area. 75 lb WSB are caught almost every year along this coast. And some giant surf perch from the beaches winter here. Soccoro is prime, if you can get off the beach.

Exactly. I only split them into two because the options would be different. From San Lucas Cove the Isla is right there. Chivato is unique and fishy w/o the channel crossing.

Back when Pta Colorada was running, finding a local w a camioneta to haul you back from Cabo Pulmo was the attraction. When I was there, I made almost daily paddles past Pta Arena. I was 5 miles as the crow flies (gps) from Pta Colorada, and below the point. I figured I was about 1/3 of the way to CP and the daily winds were starting to freshen from the NE, which made the paddle back to PC a little wet and tough quartering, but following would have been nicer on the drift. It would suck in a big blow, but the daily winds to 15 I experienced would have been great for the through. Only about the last mile or so would be through the Marine Reserve w a whole lot of options in between.

in PENCILfor now need more input/people involved
26/27 Dec through 9/10 Jan.
Pending until more people show an interest. Need 3 trucks for this trip, also places to stay on beach or in palapa or room. This is an 800 mile trip each way. TWO full days driving.

Bob, really trying to make that San Quintin Halibut tourney in June - just figuring out work - I think I am going to try and make it down to the area memorial day weekend though. What is Soccoro? and is it known for surf or something what do you mean 'get off the beach'?

thanks!
Anthony

This is all open to the pacific ocean so the waves can get pretty big. Some afternoon wind and it is very hard to beach land. Launching can be rough too. Soccoro is an area south of San Quintin that holds WSB of legendary size.

Right now that would be EastLosYaker, You, ME and Buddha if he can get the time off. My choice would be 26 Dec through 10 Jan 2016, we might cut a day off one end and leave on the 27th. I should have my new truck before then so I can carry Two others if we keep the gear and food light.

PapaDave 05-12-2015 07:37 AM

Hi Bob, could you list what trips are already setup? I would like to try to go but may have to do it spontaneously.

Denis_Ruso 05-12-2015 07:57 AM

I would probably, be in for camping in Baja.

No specific spot but I would do everything I can to make it. Work would keep me from doing that long of a trip though. I could maybe do a week.

6 June San Quintin Halibut tournament

24-30 June Gonzaga Bay

27 July-9 August Asuncion/Abreojos visit ROSSMAN

8-17 Sept Private trip to Gonzaga

17-24 October Gonzaga best trip of 2014

23 Nov-3 Dec Asuncion/Abreosos visit ROSSMAN

26 Dec-9 Jan 2016 New Years in Mag Bay visit ROSSMAN

New Years trip still needs two anglers to happen. And on a personal note I could use a few more anglers for the San Quintin Tournament on 6 June, however I understand the fishing could get HOT here at the same time. Tight lines.

I feel honored sir, your first post. Ok any trip to Gonzaga is open, you could come a day or two early or leave a few days early to keep it shorter. Actually you could do that on any trip it just means you do not get to caravan with the whole group. These trips are flexable.
