I don't like giving a report like this but it might help others. Launched at 5:30 am this morning, as soon as I got past the surf I noticed by GPS beeping (low batteries) no too bad, then my FF is full of background noise to the point that I can't see anything on it but noise (useless). I make 2 spanish macks and both are deep hooked on my sabiki so out they go. Never was able to make any more bait so I trailed a rapala mack pattern accross the canyon for about an hour for nothing. The water was dark brown!!! Threw some irons, decided today wasn't "my" day. Quit at 8am.
Wind was light, a little surf at the launch. I looked down towards the pier and there were some serious waves breaking.

Yeah, the water's murky green and dirty... Lot's of bioluminescence (yesterday).. Red tide.. Hope not.

Water vis < 5ft, water temp 58, and light wind (definately not blown out like yesterday). Lot's of broken kelp and eel grass. I launched at 0600, with some noobs. Short time to fish, so out to the kelp for bait. Lot's of spanish out in about 70'. Pinned one on and trolled outside the kelp for nada. Then to the "spot" to soak and toss iron. Nothing... No takers on the macs. Landed at 1000 to lowtide, and 1-2fters. Radio was quiet.

The weather was great this morning, but the water was a nasty brown color at the kelp. I didn't see any of the right kind today, just bait and lots of sealions and their pups.

That algae is apparantly sickening or killing sea lions and other marine life

By the way, I caught a 15 lb YT on 4/27 at about 6 PM. The YT ate a mackerel on a flyline, just outside the kelp. Hope I don't get sick eating it.

More of the same

I launced after 6:00, made bait next to the kelp off the children's pool and dragged it from 65'-200' of water. Lots of bait, but even the chang of tide and current around 10:00 didn't bring the yellows in like last Sunday PM. I saw a few birds playing off the kelp at Wind and Sea and paddled over. Hooked and farmed at the yak a barricuda 24-28" that had a bunch of his buddies following. They were harrying the smelt big time. Nothing to hang on to. Hopefully better current and visibility soon. The launch was wet, but I miraculously (for me) managed to paddle in between the sets. It was a hoot watching the recreational kayakers dump their yaks getting out.
