Camera Advice

Hi guys, would the GoPro hd hero 960 be a good camera for kayaking, or would another model be better! What's a good price?

Thanks for the info.

Go Pro is nice, I have one. The only negative is the buttons are hard to operate. I've missed lots of good footage because I couldn't get it in record mode quick enough. www.helmetcameracentral is where I got mine and it was the best price I could find. I am showing $179.99 atm.

As an alternative, look at the Polaroid Playsport HD. It looks like a cellphone and has just about the same features as the Go Pro but is less (around $150), has 128mb internal memory (+ SD card slot), and has a viewscreen so it can double as a regular video camera instead of just a helmet cam. I am hoping to get one for Christmas :)

what ever you do ...
DO NOT get that POS Olympus Stylus Tough 6000.

I can tell you that is about as big a piece of dung as you'll EVER find..
Tough eh?
They must have meant "tough luck" getting it to work "around" a water environment, let alone IN!..I had to send it in 3 times to be repaired..

REI has the GoPro Hero 960 for $179.95

I like the sound of the Go Pro, a friend of mine that has one says you can also use if for still shots, is that true?

This is the $179 mdl. I wasn't sure if the $299 mdl was the one to go for. Which mdl to you shoot with Wade? Your vid's always come out great.:cheers1:

Thanks

I have the GoPro too. It has a few things you have to get used to, but it does take good video for the price. If you go with it, only use good storage cards or you will end up losing videos.

I am considering this one for Christmas

I have the GoPro HD and it is a very nice camera. It is also very small, so it does not get in the way while fishing. I have the chest strap that holds the camera so I take pictures or film fighting a fish very easily. It is perfect for kayaking or other water sports.

One thing is Flydigital is correct that in that the buttons do take some practice using them. I normally set the camera up to where it is in video mode and I only push one button to record and stop recording.

I expect to see some good videos after Christmas if your wishes come true.

Here is a good source:

Hey Kevin,

I should try that... I have it set to auto shutoff after 30 seconds to save battery but it would be lots easier if I could get record to start with just one press. My biggest problem right now is turning the unit on sometimes goes to video mode, sometimes to burst still mode, then I have to toggle through everything until I find record mode and by then the recordable event is usually over! PITA. But when I get the mode right it makes good video :)

There is a free firmware update available on the GoPro website. It allows for one button recording- Just turn the camera on, and it will start recording in your default mode. Cool feature :cheers1:

Thanks I'll do some research!

Sorry to hear that Wade! I thought since I've seen some videos since you lost your camera that you had a new one. The FF should be very productive though.
