Kelp condition in LJ??

Haven't been out for a couple of weeks. The last time I was out, there was very little exposed kelp. Has anyone noticed the condition of the Kelp? Thanks in advance.

Little, if any surface kelp when I was out last weekend. Surf is doing a good job at keeping it that way.

Thanks for the report.

Saw maybe 2 or 3 strands at the surface today. Saw another couple submerged about 10' down. Almost no visual cues for the kelp right now.

I've only been out in LJ twice so far in '16. Kelp was down both times. Current plays a big part but El Nino conditions are hard on kelp. The warm water weakens the kelp then the large winter swell tear the weak end plants apart. I recall in past el ninos the small kelp beds in north county off Terra mar, tamarack beach, and the army n navy academy vanished. Mike

I saw the kelp slowly decay as the water temp went up, I was hoping it had returned. Thanks again.
