4/6 LJ morning report

6-9:30 am report Condo area 80-60 ft
foggy, few birds, but macks readily available, lots of kayaks, no hookups observed. Checked out south by Children's Pool 100-120 ft, 9:30-10:45, lots of bait on surface, no hookups observed. 10:45 - back to work

Same results for me, also. Really slow morning I stuck it out till 1pm.

Thanks for the report guys. Was thinking about braving the rain on Friday...

Winds out of the south...fish don't bite. Proved it again today.

I was out in 85' of water with 2 other center consoles as well as about 4 kayaks. At 8:05 the bigger models came through and I saw 3 hook-ups and one minute latter I hooked a homeguard on a Okuma Cortez 5CS with 65lb. Power Pro and a top shot of 30lb. floro hooked to a bigger Mackerel. I did not stand a chance - the fish stripped 150 yds of line in about 60 seconds and headed straight for the weeds. I had no choice to put my thumb down on the spool in an attempt to stop the beast but my 30 lb. floro broke at the hook knot. I saw one fish out of the 3 hooked - landed by a kayaker.

Slow day - out of there at 11:30.

Bummer you lost it. Any inadequacies with the Cortez reel? I have the same reel, yet to use it, but plan to take on a 1.5 dayer as a 20 or 25# setup.

I have the same reel and have caught many fish on it. I caught a 30 Blue fin on it no issues. The only complaint is the amount of drag. I think it has 15lbs of drag so even if you button it down, fish will peal off line.

I have 6 Cortez reels in different sizes and have had zero issues. I fish Daiwa Saltist prior and loved them as well.

I have a couple of them too. Agree with this assessment.
