Texas Kayakers - Help

Hey guys! Covid has thrown a wrench in my vacation plans (planned way long ago) for next week..

Thinking about driving my Tacoma to NOLA with the Kayak on top.. I'm working out the logistical issues of storage but just wondering if it is worth the stop a couple days in Houston/Gavelston to get my kayak wet? If so what launch spots? Never been to Texas so this will be a first.. Or is it worth it to just jump on a cattle boat for the day? Not even sure the rules and regs if anything worthy is being caught right now?

Best,

-Stevie

Sounds like a kick ass road trip. I'm not sure what the route looks like but I'm assuming you are going i10 you can head south to corpus christi, fish the oil rigs for king fish, and perhaps even luck out with a sailfish. Maybe save the boat trip experience for venice marina louisiana fishing the gulf for big yft and snapper (idk what the seasons are). It looks like one of if not the best fishery in the US.

Galveston and the intracoastal are great in the winter. Find deep canals and the redfish will pile in on any kind of cold front. Same with South Louisiana. You can fish lots of drainages in the marsh this time of year for red fish and speckled trout.
