Huge bottom fish haul- Redondo 8/30

Hi all! Haven't posted a report in a while, but here's one (plus a fish ID request) from Sunday at Redondo. I went out with a few other guys, one of them (SocalEDC) also posted a report.

Water was very warm but no surface activity whatsoever. Two weeks ago, my buddy and I found a secret rock at 290' and marked it. Came back to it yesterday and had WFO Boccaccio action. Every drop was a fish, and none were small. It was an easy limit as the bite was nonstop, and the fish ate everything from bait (small fish), mackerel (medium fish), and 6" gulp curly tails (big fish).

Crazy thing was... I had a fish bite off a gulp curly tail at 8AM in around 300' of water, and I caught the fish with it in its mouth at around 12PM. It wasn't on the hook so gulp must make a good product!

The last two pictures are of an angry fish I caught. I got two total on plastics. They were biting me and the plastic while trying to unhook them. I have no idea what it is... some kind of goby? Let me know if you've seen it before!

I've posted more photos and a video of the trip on my Instagram, go ahead and check it out! @nomad.fish

Nice haul. FoodGeek got it. Sarcastic fringehead. Gnarly fish first one I'd want if a saltwater aquarium was ever an option.

Congratulations on the nice haul of Rockfish. During my childhood learning to fish in Redondo, a 15 fish limit of Boccaccio like those was the norm for a half-day trip.

Nice Haul!

Always fun to find a deep rock that's holding good fish. I've never had good luck out of Redondo deep.

I think discovering a Sarcastic Fringehead (What a crazy name and fish) would have made my day on its own.

That fish was really cool. It was pretty angry so I felt bad for catching him, otherwise I would have tried to take some better pictures!

Redondo for me is the hot spot for an unlimited supply of medium sized rockfish. There are huge areas that hold fish at different times of day, so it's a lot of fun going around and seeing the screen light up at certain waypoints here and there. I haven't caught a big Newport sized vermillion at Redondo, but I think I saw a guy post here before saying that he got a couple on tubes in the canyon. So I'll keep trying, but it is a drive.

Great haul, I was there 29th, 30th and 31st top fishing and only came back with a mackerel!

Nice catch!

Where does one launch from in that area?

The Redondo marina launch ramp! Definitely need wheels to get down the ramp but it is a good launch. On the way in, expect to deal with 50 people messing around on a tiny dock so be patient! Parking is 2 dollars an hour starting at 8AM but the gates are open 24/7. Water drops from 60 to 100+ within 50-100 yards of the harbor mouth, then you're in the canyon.
