Help with a fish ID
 
Ok, caught a couple of these buggers on the sabiki close to the bottom in fairly deep waters 80' +. Any ideas?

That is your old "Black Smith" Perch....pretty sure that's what you got there.

Thanks! I think you're right. Now I know those big schools I saw on the finder aren't macs or squid.

Crap....already fed them to the kids. Guess I don't have to save for college anymore. Maybe I should hire Josh with that money instead :rolleyes:

I believe Dos Ballenas was the one doing the study, and you don't need to hire a guide ya just need to get another one of those irons!:sifone:

yepper, Chromis punctinpiunus... or blacksmith...

how deep were they... usually they hang in and near the kelp, but sometimes are found off in deeper water...

I'm still interested in collecting specimens if you get anymore...

I've caught 2 of those fish a few months back. Showed it to Eric to ID and said, "I dunno either, if it ain't white, yellow or flat, throw it back." So I did. What kind of study are they doing on them??
