Pelican Castaway 100

are pelican kayaks reliable???? i don't want a cheap kayak i want sonething good

are they worth buying?

i will be fishing around saltwater flats, i'll be fishing also in like 2 to 20 feet of water

does that sound good for the pelican?? it's 10 foot so i think it would be a good size. here's the link for it on gander mountain's website http://www.gandermountain.com/modper...1&merchID=4006

The reason Pelicans and other such brands are so cheap is because they're not rotomolded. Rotomolding produces the best quality and most durable end product. All major brands are made this way- Ocean Kayak, Wilderness, Malibu, Cobra, Hobie...

If the price is what's catching your eye, you're better off buying a used rotomolded kayak than a new thermoformed one IMO.

Don't do it

My first kayak purchase was that nifty looking pelican tandem that Costco sells each year around this time for 5 bills. Took my then 8-year old son out to J street for a paddle to see how it would handle. Only moderate wind chop that day, but he got soaked due to the lack of rocker in the design. Gotta love Costco, returned it and got an OK Malibu 2 elsewhere (which I wouldn't recommend for a fishing yak) for about the same price and am much happier with its performance, though it lacks much storage space and outfitting it is a bit tricky. As previous poster said, my boat has much thicker plastic than the pelican brand. I'm sure it would be fine for truly flat water, but neither of our bays is truly flat much past 10 am most days.

Pekican

We have two...one sit on top and the other sit in...had them for about 3 years never a problem. Kids like em' and can handle them well, why spend to money if you don't have too!
