Mission Bay, 1-1-16 (short report)

Ended up doing a gentleman's launch (around 8am) to a cold offshore breeze. Water was very cold and clear (54º-56º). Zero current. Worked a lot of different areas and depths for 3 bites, converted on 2 of them for short fish. Fished all my normal baits, but it was Red Fish Toad and Bad Shad (with a sexy shad skirt) that got the fish. Off the water just before 11am. The nice thing was the lack of traffic on the roads, made it home in 1hr 15min.

it looks like it was pretty slow, I want to get down there and work around the mouth of the bay, see if I can figure out the halibut. I think I'm going to need some warm clothes for fishing there for the rest of the winter.

Cool thanks for the update! Where roughly were you getting H20 readings that chilly today? I went out to Mission the day before, and was having that exact same issue.. Nothing much was producing in this cold yesterday, so I threw on that brand new colorway "Redfish Toad" and POW!:reel: Slow but a good day overall..only twenty two total w/ three decent toads to match..(Bad Shad & Redbone Glow are my usual producers but those went bupkis yesterday till I switched up to it..)

Defintely cold for the first hour or so. Once the wind layed down it warmed up quick.

Entrance to Sail Bay (NE side) was 54 and off ski beach was 56. I mostly worked the grass flats. Shoulda stayed tight where I got my first fish.
