What the Hell?

Anyone seen this link? Don't know if it's real or not, but I googled Graddy Warren and he is a legit captain in Florida. Disturbing if true. Looked it up on Snopes and nothing was there.

Is that real?

My cat would not let me put a hook in her...

If true, makes me sick!

Jim Sammons LJKF 03-20-2009 11:37 AM

Looked fake to me. You just pick up my cat, or should I say former cat, and it would bite and scratch to crap out of us.
Funny if fake, sick shit if it is real.

Cat story:

When my cat was young, I had my gear by the door ready to go out the next morning. One of the rigs had a sabiki on it. I was on the computer and heard a racket by the front door, so I went to go investigate. The cat had attacked a sabiki fly and hooked itself in the top lip (perfectly) and was struggling against the rod. I grabbed the cat, bit off the fly and got my diagonal cutters to cut the hook shank. After I had grabbed the cat, it was very mellow and let me take care of it. He didn't even bleed and didn't sulk or react at all afterward. Like it never happened. But he hasn't messed with the fishing lures again, that's for sure.

I had a similar situation Zed, but w/ my dog. He never sniffed around the rods again either.

BTW, that is f'ed up if that video is true. I definitely will not be letting my cat watch that.

Check out this artical

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...gs_sharks.html

€1,000 (Euros)

For the first successful conviction of a fisherman using a dog or cat as shark bait and €200 for each conviction thereafter

Dogs and cats are also involved in an assault on nature, this time as victims and as bait. On the French island of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean, fishermen have been using live dogs and cats as bait for sharks.
This practice is specifically outlawed by French law but the law, as in many places throughout the world, is ignored by fishing communities who apparently believe they are above the law.
The dogs and cats have hooks passed through their snouts or through the tendons in their legs and the hooks are attached to lines and rods. The hapless animals are then tossed into the water where their struggles attract sharks.
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has sent a message to the police in La Reunion offering a reward of €1,000 (Euros) for the first successful conviction of a fisherman using a dog or cat as bait and €200 for each conviction thereafter.

The following letter was sent to the Chief of Police on La Reunion Island:
To: The Police
La Reunion Island
The international Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is offering a reward of 200 Euros to any police officer who successfully enforces the law prohibiting the use of dogs and cats as bait for the catching of sharks.
The Society is offering a reward of 1,000 Euros for the first conviction and 200 Euros for each conviction thereafter.
The reward will be paid upon the successful conviction of any person found guilty of using dogs or cats as bait in shark fishing as defined by the laws of France that specifically outlaw this practice.
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society wishes to advise all police captains that they may submit the names of officers who have arrested suspects for using dogs or cats as shark bait and that the reward will be paid directly to the officer or officers upon a successful conviction.

All these stories are false and on research they all track back to a few animal rights groups that are anti fishing, mostly from Europe.

Some of them like the Reunion Island story have been around for years but they keep repackaging them.

The idea a Marlin would hit a kitten dangled from a kite is ridiculous.

Marlin eat fish not furry mammals.

Totally makes sense, but when I googled the captain, he appears to be a legit captain that has even written books.....just seems like an added element that doesn't quite make sense. Why would he shoot a video if it's a complete farse. Not saying it's true, just trying to figure it out...

Discrimination is wrong! I would definitely use kittens, puppies, and baby chickens for bait.:reel:

Rather pin one of those on the hook than a big nasty water dog!:D

I love that Miami is listed as one of the countries that allows Kitten for bait. If you have ever been there it is like another country.:p
