magnetic fish finder mounts for transducer

I did a quick search for a magnetic ff mount and nothing came. I am probably going to be getting a fish finder soon and was still trying to figure out a good way to mount it. I came across this review for the hummingbird helix 5 di on youtube and the simplicity of the mounts kind of blew me away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VidF0t3h3M&t=4m19s What are your guys thought on using a magnetic mount? It seems like a good way to keep your yak drill free for the most part.

Here is another one...I'm going to try and make one similar Out of moldable plastic. Should be pretty easy with this stuff and some strong magnets

Neodymium magnets are strong. I don't know how they hold up to salt water.

I recently got the mount in the link. It is great! A very simple and elegant design that is extremely strong and unobtrusive. You actually have to be careful not to smash your fingers when bringing he two pieces of the mount together. It stays put once you leave it in place (its meant to stay put at up to 20 mph). The magnets are sealed and unit is a heavy plastic- should be no problem with salt water.

I have been considering this, but with the free time I have I will probably just drop my kayak off to have my new FF set up however it is done at the shop.

Looks like simple time saving solution. No holes needed and if you have several kayaks it would take just seconds to swap the off over. The mount does show a decent profile and distance from the hull so maybe launching could be an issue and kelp would be a serious drag, literally. I was picturing the something dropping down off the bottom of the yak. But the video shows it mounted on the side. Good idea. If the inner mount was strapped on all you'd have to do is set the outside mount and go. And if you needed to clear kelp just reach over the side a few inches. Great idea. Mike

anyone get one of these? wondering if the side mount gets the transducer deep enough so splash bubbles do not interfere.
