What do you intend to do with the kayak ?

-Fish ? and Where?

I would consider something more substantial along the lines of used Malibu (fishing yaks) for a little more money.
9 ft. is a little short to fish La Jolla.

The Oex shops usually have deals on used yaks, and BWE For Sale section has seen its share of fully rigged fishing machines at great prices.

Keep an eye open.

It depends where you are using it. That kayak looks good for short trips in rivers, bays, lakes, near shore in calmer water. If you were fishing offshore more than a mile or two you would want a longer kayak for paddling efficiency, 12' minimum. Add some RAM rod holders and a cheap FF for knowing depth and underwater obstacles, ledges, grass/kelp, etc. and that could be a fish killing machine.

Islander Kayaks

Its not a bad kayak at the price, a little short and a little clunky. The other suggestion is for the most part a good call. Find a used more recognized fishing kayak. If you really get into the sport you will outgrow that hull very quickly. If you have kids to pass it down to then its fine.

Most important thing is to get out on the water and if possible paddle a few to try it out. Any kayak that gets you fishing on water you always looked at is a good kayak.

Try finding something used on craigslist. "ocean kayak, malibu, wilderness systems, cobra.

see if you can find a "heritage" angler. pretty inexpensive and i use one as my rig in texas. Real fast and easy to paddle.

PM me if you would like.
