World record....not! Not even the American record. Only the largest in the lower 48 states. Big fish though.

Geno Machino 05-29-2016 11:29 AM

Yes Greg, just as the article states. Only in the lower 48 states...;)

YakDout 05-29-2016 11:34 AM

Yep says record in lower 48 right in the article

Been seeing this floating around the web with the same BS about "World Record" all week. I know that Howard's fish was 180+, but apparently Alaska does not count? I guess I have a lot of "Record" fish, just for very small and specific areas (measured in square feet).:D Btw, who is keeping the "Records" that he broke? It sure is not the IGFA.

Lo! Being on team sewer gives you an unfair advantage for that record.

I would say "No pics, didn't happen" but I won't.

The halibut in the picture below is not a record anywhere in any body of water.

That's a great article. An epic catch, especially in light of the line test and other factors involved.

I just wish they did a better job of referencing the actual record by Howard McKim. His fish was 183 pounds.
Hard to get a good size reference because Howard is about 6'9" as I recall.
