Tow Bait Tank

I don't have room on my explorer for a bait tank. Does anyone have any good ideas (pics) for a "tow" type bait tank?

Have you looked at making a bait tube?

I saw an interesting prototype that this kid (teenager)
had when he landed at Doheney a couple weeks ago. He took one of those baby boogie boards that you see kids play with in pools. (maybe 24 inches long) He put a leash on it and cut a rectangle out of the center and sank a small laundry type basket or plastic storage tub into the rectangle. It had very small holes so that bait can't escape. Then he took the part that he cut out and made a lid with handle for it. He said he was still experimenting with weighting it properly so it would track well and stay stay upright under all conditions. He said he was also thinking about shaping the basket into a more hull shape for less drag.

He said he had gotten a half scoop of dines in it on that day, and they were still very lively at the end of his 5 hr paddle.

Just when i think there is no hope for the next generation, I run into a kid like this. Pretty engenius

Like they say, necessity is the mother of all inventions.

Keep in mind that towed bait systems are occasionally chewed on by toothy critters that want the bait inside. Right Kurt?;)

I took these rarely seen pics of Bacardi Donut Man a couple years ago, the kid probably got the idea from him, he's quite the legend around there :notworthy:

Hey, I used to get bait from that guy at DP in my "pre-yak" days. I made a sled off of his design for keeping bait alive off the rocks, but never from a yak.

IMHO I think it would be a great treat for the toothy critters, if trolling it behind the yak. I have had a mako go for my bait tube before, so I don't think I would troll that thing behind my yak.

That guy potrays the final stages of kayakman evolution.
The slow progression from Homo habilis to Homo erectus to modern man, Homo sapien kayak fishingman with fishfinder, gps navigation, two speed reel, cellphone, and a live bait tank. and i still can't catch fish!!!!!

I made this one. Less than $7.00. Keeps Dines good for several hours. and holds a full kayak scoop. I'm thinking of cutting it down.

I tried making one like Bacardi Donut Man but it kept tiping over while trolling. If I were to do that type again I would use and old Boogie board and the bucket would be set lower into the water.
