Kayak fish of the week June 29th - July 8th 2022

I try to go fishing once a week, but sometimes my math is not that good. This was yesterday out of Dania Beach, FL.

Blackfin Tuna taken on the sink.:jig:

I have seen puffer fish in Mahi, but This is the first time I have seen a triggerfish in a predator's gut.

You would think that, but the triggerfishes leathery body that prevents bite penetration also limits the fish's flexibility. Other than the fins Mitch, they are rigid fish making it hard to bend to take a bite. The Trigger was in the gut tail first making it near impossible for it to have taken a bite of the abdomen. What was amazing is that the trigger's spike on the top is super rigid, yet the stomach lining of the tuna is so tough, no chance it was going to poke through it. It must have been uncomfortable for the tuna as the stomach bulged up to the circumference of the trigger bone. I would guess the triggerfish succumbed to the stomach acids pretty quickly.

At the far reaches of my gaff range, two attempts at a belly shot bounced off the tough skin, forcing an over-the-top shot to sustain enough weight to sink the gaff.
