San Diego - Bonefish, Black Croaker & Spotties

This is a Kayak Fishing Report from 5/3/21.

A quick morning session on the outgoing before the afternoon winds came up proved to be quite enjoyable and productive. No pics of the Spotties though I probably caught 12 to 15 of them. They were hitting hard on the Christmas Tree Big Hammer. On my other rig caught five or six Black Croaker and one Bonefish that ripped a the drag for a few good runs.

Where did you find the bone fish at southern San Diego bay?

That’s what I call an exciting and exceptional day on the water! Nice work!

Nice job on the bonefish and black croaker! May is an exciting month to fish south bay. If the jacksmelt are showing up to spawn then the corvina fishing should be really good.

Bayside Park. Its an easy beach launch and good parking. Most of the bay there is 10 ft deep with patches of seagrass, but the boat channel is deeper, and the transition usually holds fish. I even caught a bonito back there once.
