Lj report 01/12/13

First post. Couple of noobs. 730a Beach launch (between windansea & marine street... Not for the faint of heart) on cobra tandem hitting up kelp outside windansea. Two of us on the yak steady of flow beer not so steady flow on the yellow tail. Trying out new lawrance mark 4 covered lots of ground got a number of calico and decent sand bass. Using plastics and irons. Water was cold and green, lots of current with the swell and tidal swing.

Metered some bait and saw some big boys on ff. got one to bite but couldn't get to stick.

Great day on the water! Saw some whales, came back in around 4. Usually see at least a couple other yaks out, but no one out yesterday.

nice going out there. having a bite from a big boy is half of the battle. well.. its 3/4 of the battle. the half way mark is making bait. lol

Not my first surf launch. I live close to the san clemente pier and surf launching is the only option there, so I'm pretty used to it. Saturday was definitely a pretty heavy launch but we made it (some surfers and people on the beach had their eyes peeled on us the whole time, as I would have too.....ha). And yes, I've flipped many times (mostly on the way in) and been in some pretty gnarly surf, but I've never not made it out, sometimes it just takes a little longer. I grew up surfing and am very comfortable in the ocean, and to me beach launches are part of the fun of this sport.

For sure man. We'll probably be fishing off the domes in san onofre, or possibly dana point next weekend.

Anyone going to try this weekend, Sunday or Monday, LJ Shores? I am also a noob, never surf launched. If not, I will probably hit Shelter Island with some sardines for halibut. Let me know. Would love company either way. :luxhello:

i was thinking about it

i went on saturday 1 / 12 . hooked something large . it was gray and white and about 200 lbs. it left the water a couple of times.it spooled off 500 yards of spectra in about 10 minutes. i was thinking about going for revenge. i almost crapped my shorts so i cut the line before it towed me out to china. are you in?

So are you thinking Sun or Mon, Shelter Island or LJ? I would'nt mind LJ but I'm a little apprehensive of the surf if it's big that day (or even if it's small!). Ok, so I'm a little freaked about a surf launch!! Let me know, then maybe we can switch to PM's for some info exchange.
