Oxbeast1210 08-03-2014 03:41 PM

Awesome !!:reel: I haven't fished this coast very much what is the green fish?

YakDout 08-03-2014 04:03 PM

That would be a really nice size ling cod

jorluivil 08-03-2014 04:04 PM

Are you sure you got the whole kayak?

ful-rac 08-03-2014 04:04 PM

WTF?! In so many ways....

wiredantz 08-03-2014 07:56 PM

Is this the way you treat the guy who saved your life on the water, after you chummed the water with your own blood for 3 hours and then had to motor you back in. :p

I still can't close my hand from all that fish we caught. I got so many cuts and teeth marks on my hand!

ful-rac 08-03-2014 08:06 PM

Hmmm...

Tell us about the finger frank....

blitzburgh 08-03-2014 08:08 PM

Hahaha love the post! Nice feeeeesh!

Widgeon 08-03-2014 08:08 PM

Nice lings.
I think your buddy can fit a few more things on his yak

JeffB 08-03-2014 08:16 PM

Very Nice red and lingcod!

jruiz 08-03-2014 08:20 PM

My "Frank moment" was when my sonar busted and following him around for structure. Mental note #342, don't follow a guy with a torqeedo trying to find structure. Despite saying that, he's one of the funnest guys I've fished with by far. You should really start a kayak fishing charter based on that alone.

jruiz 08-03-2014 08:22 PM

Big thanks for Roby and Frank for putting this together. My digicam quit on me before the trip so all I have is on the shore phone pics.

First day. This pic was from my last drop, on my last drift, on the last piece of kelp before the landing. PB verm @ 7lb 6oz. It looked really old
http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...31_1922250.jpg

This was from the second half of the second day when I overslept after the morning session.

http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...801_195136.jpg
http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...801_195156.jpg

I had a hard time hooking in to a ling the whole trip. Finally hooked on to one at the same waypoint I got the red the first day. Broke me off after I thumbed the spool a bit to try to slow down it's run. Saw that Roby was having good luck on the big plastics so Frank was nice enough to lend me one that I snagged on the first cast. I believe Roby lost two as well in the same area within 30 minutes of one another. Right before the last session I made a drive over to morro bay to buy some tackle determined to bring home a ling. Had my chance 30 minutes in and lost him fumbling for my gaff. Went home with a decent cabezon as a consolation.

I was sort of on the fence about going to the CSDIII, after this trip though I'm going to try to make it.

ericko 08-03-2014 08:30 PM

Glad I made one photo ... One of the best kayak trips I've been on. Fishing was good even for me and as always food was good.

Thanks Roby

There I was fishing under a morning blanket of mist and of fog with squid on a dropper loop when I get a call on the radio..." Does anyone have a bandaid.."..(John says)... I answered his radio call being the super boy Scout that I am "this is Nacho Grande --- who is need of medical attention"... John than answers "Roby is bleeding I think he gaffed himself."... I then said "how In the world did roby gaff himself!" Roby than says " frank come here I need help.. " I look around and there are like 15 other kayakers and I said "where are you at?" Roby said I'm pedaling to you. I see a faint shadow coming through the thick mist. I immediately get to him and see him covered in blood. I said "roby what happened" he said I cut myself. I reach for my waterproof first aid bag and throw it to his kayak where he gets a bandaid that quickly fills up with blood and pours down his kayak. I tell hill to get the gauze out and wrap his finger in it, roby said "but I don't want to use it all. "He wraps his finger on the gauze which quickly fills up with blood, but eventually stops the bleeding. After that I gave a tow back in....:farmer: where he was able to tend to his wound.

radastaff 08-03-2014 08:53 PM

You don't sit on that kayak, it's remote controlled, for storage . I steer it from the pro angler

The one paddling in is you too.

Amish Ed 08-03-2014 10:04 PM

Great report. Looks like you had great conditions.

Deamon 08-04-2014 05:22 AM

Roby! Where's the money shot? Pic of bleeding cut finger please. Or this post is a bogus cut and paste scam where (4) men camped together and made a pact...what goes on up here, stays up here, right guys?

It looked something like this. I remember asking how bad it was and the reply was "the bleeding won't stop." Thank you frank for saving roby, he had all the good waypoints and still hadn't cooked breakfast for us yet.

I found a pic of Roby's rescue by the USCG

That my friend...looks like a paper cut. I am entirely underwhelmed. I hope you weren't crying and screaming like a little bitch. There'd have to be a shark within 10' of your yak to get attracted to that bleeder. I'm just saying. :icon_bs:

steveooo 08-04-2014 07:32 AM

I like it! Nice pre-fishin session for the Cambria Slam Down with what looks like a pretty fun group. Conditions look killer up there, nice timing.

wiredantz 08-04-2014 07:55 AM

this is what his cut looked liked, after we took him down the medical center to get some stiches

Deamon 08-04-2014 08:57 AM

I was thinking it was going to be like Monty Python's Holy Grail..."it's just a flesh wound" as blood is squirting around...lol

Hondatom 08-04-2014 09:55 AM

OUCH!

FISH11 08-04-2014 01:25 PM

Sounds like a great trip Roby. Nice red and lings. Great sunset picture. It wouldn't have been as good a story without the chumming using your own blood part. Sorry you had to go to urgent care and get stitches. Remember "pain is temporary, glory is forever and Chicks dig scars". Mark

momo fish 08-04-2014 01:31 PM

Speaking of, anyone heading up to the cambria slam this year? Couldn't go last year due to work but been planning on attending this year.

Registration will open in a week or so hopefully.

bus kid 08-04-2014 02:00 PM

You guys dared to fish in Yakjoes backyard with out him?

Your red was real nice. The picture doesn't show its true size.

I can't wait to do this trip again. Thanks again for getting the homemade apple pie on that last night.

P

On the last evening we were fishing, I had a lingcod dangling from my kayak and I had this eerie feeling I wasn't alone. I saw this huge mark on my fish finder at 60 feet and just knew it had to be "The Man." With Piedras Blancas so close, I think the GWs are always around.

You have been invited twice and you keep blowing off the trip. Wassup Dawg?!

No pre-fishing. I join tournaments for the raffles only and even then I don't win. Conditions were great. Hopefully, it stays that way for the Slam.

It's definitely worth attending. The coastline is amazing. We saw whales two days in a row. Ryan also runs a smooth tourney.

Nice fish guys! Looks like a fun trip aside from the finger thing. I like to keep a roll of rescue tape with me for junk like that.

That's what I was thinking, when I saw the picture. " IT " does not look edible. Why would you want to eat that. Certainly not before spending hours on the water, unless you want to be feeding the fish.

wiredantz 08-05-2014 10:26 PM

Looks to me like frozen soup or chowder. My family makes large soup batch and freeze it in bags and can be stored for 1 to 2 month with the same freshness as the same day the soup was cook. Hope i'm right about this.
