Black sea bass that is!

Doing the North County thing this morning, with a few of the locals.

Met Greg at the launch and headed out to meet up with Byran (Surfisher).

Got out to the spot, made bait easily, and dropped down to see what might be lurking. Got picked up and preceded to fight my first hookup for about 35-40 mins before I pulled the hook.

Casted out again and hooked this smaller sized BSB, which ended up being over a hour long tug of war. Byran and Greg came in to see if they might be able to assist, and took some pics of the event.

Once I finally pulled this bad boy/girl from the depths, I then released it. To help this Beautiful looking fish re-stabilize, Surfisher swam it down about 20-25 ft a couple of times, before it finally righted itself swimming down and unharmed!!!

You swimming it down is epic!!!:you_rock:

Super stoked on the Pics - Bryan - Thanks!!!

Biggest fish from my yak so far, and I am So Stoked!!!

Pulling on fish is what we like to do, and that's exactly what I did this morning...

Don't worry, it's just a barbless hook

taggermike 09-20-2015 02:48 PM

That third photo is amazing. No more using a gaff, even in the mouth, on any fish you intend to release please. Mike

SmokinBass 09-20-2015 03:10 PM

Nice pics!

surfisher 09-20-2015 03:40 PM

It was hot out, felt good to go for a swim anyways haha.

Good work Bryan on the swim down! That's awesome to say the least!!

And yes no gaff at all with these fish. Chalk it up to learning experience 😊

Awesome work on the swim down release, Bryan!

Mr. NiceGuy 09-20-2015 06:42 PM

Amazing photo. That's one to enlarge and hang on the wall.

I'm meeting lots of kayak fishermen who are good and responsible people, and I feel proud to be amongst this new circle of friends.

Nice photo on the swim down. I got a BSB on a yo-yo iron in about 80 ft earlier this summer. Was pleasantly surprised to see it swim off so freely - no poking or prodding (or swim down!). I'm guessing mine was about 30lbs.

GBCbad 09-21-2015 09:12 AM

Nice catch and great teamwork on the release....awesome photo.

Great meeting you on the water Geno and thanks again for the squid. I only managed a couple of broken off hook ups from the North County celebrity HH.

Dirty Curti 09-21-2015 09:51 AM

Fucking Awesome!

I thought you were just snagged. I wish I would've stayed around to see that. I was just on a mission to catch a fish so I headed back out. The mission proved to be impossible. Nothing caught by me out there.

Anyways, send me that picture via email and I will print that poster for Bryan.

Send it to ca137@postnet.com

Great job on the release! :cheers1:

Now THIS pic of a pprotected species being swam back down is what SHOULD be on the news, not the latest 15-minute seeker that antagonizes a shark into a frenzy for an "exciting video"

super cool pix!

looking at the girth, i'd say that fish is WAY over 50#

as a point of reference, the bigger of the 2 bsb at mary birch aquarium is over 250# according to the staff.
