That is what I am trying to do. I live in Ventura County so it is not a trip around the corner to get to the border. If there is a place it can be done online, by mail or phone that someone knows about it would be appreciated. Have passport, & fishing License taken care of. Vehicle insurance will be done tomorrow.

Definitely prior to the trip.

I don't remember where the post is but Bob asked every one to take care of these things before hand to minimize travel time.

See the link in my previous post.

If we all stay in the LEFT lane we could all stop at the border, you will have to follow behind me through the same inspection booth, it will be tuff to stay together, as soon as you go through customs booth we have ONE SHORT block to all stop and park on the left side of street. those needing FMM get them and come outside and make sure we all know you are ready. We will have less than 1/2 short block to cross 3 lanes of traffic to take right at light. Once across light you must stay together through traffic lights. If separated you will have to catch up. I will stay as slow as possible so it is easier. 10 miles down the road we can stop and make sure everyone is still with us. It might work out all right if we all say in a tight group but lead truck cannot see very far behind. I cannot tell if you missed the light

OR maybe you could drive to San Diego a day early and get it and have it stamped in TJ. Get it for 6 months have it stamped and you are done. We all meet up early the following morning at Johnny's shell station in El Cajon. That way we have less trouble going through Mexicali.

OR we could cross at TJ much easier to get FMM there because no traffic problem, lots of parking. Then travel from TJ through Tecate to San Filipe, a few miles longer this way and maybe an hour longer traveling Mexico roads in the dark which I prefer not to do.

Please print out a copy of driving directions on other sticky.

So as I see it those are the choices, maybe someone else has other ideas. I travel the route on the 8 to Mexicali bacause the driving before daylight is done in the USA we cross border at daylight so as not to drive MEXICO in the dark.

There might be ONE other possibility. Sven could lead those with FMMs through to my place while those needing FMMs would stop with me and get them, that would work if there were only two other trucks with people needing FMMS more than that it will still be rough crossing traffic.

Sorry

I would love to help out but I will already be in Gonzage with EOD.
The best bet i to pull to the left after you pass the inspection and get the FMM. It won't be crowded at that time in the morning.

buddha 09-25-2015 03:24 AM

Monstahfish and I are joining discover baja and will get a prepaid FMM. We still have to stop and get it stamped. I imagine it won't take long.

makobob 09-25-2015 06:16 AM

We will get it figured out. I know if you do not have the FMM they can send you back to the border to get it, but if you have it and it is not stamped, they will have their money and probably not really care? Don't know. And it will be early and traffic might not be a factor. We will make it happen.

Gr8fuldude 09-25-2015 07:01 AM

If we are going from the 17 to the 24, that is seven days and we shouldn't need to pay, correct? I believe you only have to pay if you are going to be there more than seven days. Anyone know more about this?

Mahigeer 09-25-2015 07:29 AM

17-24 is eight days, not seven. A week plus one.

It seems we have to get the FMM regardless if it is free or not.

I personally would not risk doing anything out of procedures.

Remember it is a different country, and they have their own way of doing business.

I see one other option.

At the shell station meeting, put everyone who needs FMM in the same vehicles.

Drive on US highways and go through Mexicali.

Meet at 10 miles pass border and swap passengers.

That way maybe less cars would have to stop for FMM.

makobob 09-25-2015 09:33 AM

Changing trucks at Johnny's Shell seems like a great idea. That should work.

Glad you liked and approved it.

I knew I was good for something.

Just did not know what.

makobob 09-25-2015 10:45 AM

Sorry Hashem I will have to reserve judgement until AFTER trip ends. HaHaHa!!
It is all good and almost always works out great. BTW the solar panels are now installed on the roof, just waiting on solar controller to arrive, baby steps, Solar System should be working by 1st of November at the latest. Tight lines.

Mahigeer 09-25-2015 10:54 AM

Sounds fair.

I hope you won't be disappointed Bob.

Good to hear the solar project is advancing.

That means I have to come back to your place.

Everyone needs an FMM it doesn't matter anymore how long you stay you need it.

If staying less than a week you don't have to pay but you still have to get it.

Also they have been checking the FMM much more frequently through San Felipe now.

Most people pay and have it for 6 months.

makobob 09-25-2015 11:55 AM

Jeff you are right, last holiday weekend people were sent back from San Filipe to Mexicali to get it or to leave the country. I understand some just went home. Too bad Mexico could not just sell them in San Filipe.

Agreed wiser to pay the $22 and not need to worry later. Good call.

buddha 09-25-2015 05:48 PM

I was at discover baja today. The FMM is 28 dollars but they were sold out. They get them in every week though.

I would get yours asap as they sold over 100 yesterday!

Not sure why there is such a big surge now for traveling down there but they said that the Guadalupe wine valley is a big attraction now.

The way it works is that you pay in advance and then you get it stamped at the border. If going through the West entrance in Mexicali you enter and the office is on the left.

Discover Baja has a great deal on insurance for a 90 day policy.

You can use those 90 days anytime for a 365 day period.

With liability only coverage it is only 100 dollars.

Mahigeer 09-27-2015 07:02 AM

Sold out??? I hope there are not out of forms when we get there.

On a positive note:

Yesterday, I went to Sunset OEX and got a really nice kayak seat.

http://www.kayakfishingsupplies.com/...ic-angler-seat

Andy rang the sale and it was good to see him again.

I wanted to spend more time at the shop, but my wife was waiting in the car, so I have to go back soon.

Step by step, I am getting ready for the trip. Next step is to install bunch of accessories, like rod holders, anchor trolley, compass, etc. on the kayak.

I will have a picture of the other seat if anybody interested in purchasing. Especially the crew who is going on this trip.

makobob 09-27-2015 09:02 AM

Jeff, as I understand it the FMM is good for 6 months for reentry. You just need to get it stamped for the 1st crossing into Mexico. Tight lines.

Mahigeer,

They ran out of the FMM's at Discover Baja. They never run out of them at the border.

If you join discover baja they will sell you a prepaid FMM and then you will only have to get it stamped at the border.
